When You Should Stop Applying Yourself and Hand the Search Over
Done-for-you application support makes sense when the candidate is already employable and represented, but execution is inconsistent. It is the wrong fix for a weak foundation.
There is a point where doing every application yourself is sensible, and a point where it becomes the bottleneck. The distinction is not whether you are busy. It is whether the search is ready to be run.
DFY makes sense when the assets are already credible
Your CV is readable, the target function is coherent, your LinkedIn profile and proof are live, and you can defend the evidence in an interview. At that point the work left is repetitive but important: sourcing, eligibility checks, tailoring, submission and tracking.
DFY makes sense when bandwidth is the actual leak
A senior professional working long hours may be perfectly capable of applying and simply unable to run a disciplined search every week. That is an execution problem, not a training problem.
DFY is wrong when the target itself is unclear
If you are applying to customer success today, project management tomorrow and virtual assistance on Friday, handing that search over only scales the confusion. Aim first.
DFY is wrong when the evidence is weak
A team can submit more applications for you, but volume does not make an unclear CV clearer. If the Representation point is broken, fix it before paying someone to distribute it.
DFY does not remove your part of the process
You still need to answer questions, attend interviews, verify claims, make decisions and show up as the person represented in the application. No legitimate application service can outsource your judgement or your interview performance.
The test
Ask: If ten excellent-fit interviews appeared on my calendar this month, would my current CV, examples and answers be ready to support them?
If yes, execution may genuinely be the issue. If no, build the readiness first.
Done-for-you should remove bandwidth work. It should never be used to hide a readiness problem.
